"Step 7 - "Imagine our lives without the beauty of food..." - Chef Andrew
"There are few things that link every person on the face of our planet. So often we are divided by religion, gender, ethnicity, and social status. However, we all share a need for nourishment, and that is why the beauty of food is almost a universal language in itself. Every human being needs to eat in order to survive, but that isn't what makes food beautiful. Food has the ability to nourish our bodies and provide essential nutrients, but it also nourishes our souls in ways we are not always aware of.
Food keeps secrets that the mind has long forgotten. Wild raspberries on the tongue become a day in the summer when you were eight, the long, prickly canes brushing your arms as you search for each ripe jewel. The steam rising off a bowl of chicken soup can be as soothing as the embrace of the mother who made it. Preparing a meal for someone you love can be one of the most unselfish and caring gestures you can bestow upon them. A beautiful meal can calm an angry heart, revitalize a tired soul, and awaken passion that once seemed lost forever.
Those of us who do not speak the language of food live lives that are lacking in many pleasures, both simple and grand. Sometimes life's most beautiful moments hide within a pile of steamed asparagus, sprinkled with salt and drizzled with lemon juice. The most delicious foreplay can take place over an exquisitely prepared meal, satisfying one appetite while awakening another. Food and pleasure go hand in hand, and to deny one's self the experience of selecting, preparing, and enjoying food is to live a life in black and white.
I would rather live mine in colour. Wouldn't you?" - Pastry Chef Rachel Lye
